The Civil Right Movement is a huge part of American History. This movement fought to gain and keep rights of African American citizens within the U.S. The purpose of the movement was to help better the lives and living conditions of all people, regardless of skin color. Some rights that were fought for were no segregation, being able to vote, and to be able to go and do the same things a white person can do. The way the people of this movement went about doing this was either violent or none violent. The impact and power that these brave men and women left on American History will forever remain.

About
Fair Housing MovementA major part of the Civil rights movement was segregation. Segregation is the process in which divides areas into color. The problem with that is it is unjust and not right, but the living conditions for blacks was much worse than whites. This was a major platform for people like Martin Luther King Jr. when working for their cause.

Racism in the U.S.Another huge problem African American people faced was racism. Racism is when one believes that a certain race is inferior or superior to another. Many white people of this time did not want Blacks to have the same rights as them, causing a lot of tension and racial feud between the two groups. This would then lead up to race riots and protests across the U.S.

Martin Luther King Jr.
In April 1968 after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee, rioting broke out in cities across the country from frustration and despair. These included Cleveland, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York City and Louisville, Kentucky. As in previous riots, most of the damage was done in black neighborhoods. In some cities, it has taken more than a quarter of a century for these areas to recover from the damage of the riots; in others, little recovery has been achieved.
